Overview |
Manzanillo is a city in
the Mexican state of Colima,
located at 18.92° N 103° 88.
The city, located on the
Pacific Ocean, contains
Mexico's busiest port. In
2003 the city of Manzanillo
had an estimated population
of about 103,000 people.
Manzanillo is also a beach
resort and, as the
self-proclaimed "sailfish
capital" of the world, hosts
a yearly sailfish fishing
tournament.
In 2004 the port of
Manzanillo surpassed
Veracruz as Mexico's largest
port per volume of cargo.
Port business experienced a
significant surge during the
longshoremens´ strike in
Long Beach, California in
2002. Manzanillo also hosts
the most efficient port for
tuna landings in Mexico. |
